A silk scarf is a small object with a long chain behind it. Understanding the chain helps you ask the right questions and spot quality.
Mulberry silk starts with silkworms fed on mulberry leaves; the cocoon is reeled into a continuous filament and graded (A to 6A). Cashmere comes from the combed undercoat of cashmere goats.
The yarn is woven into twill, satin, chiffon or crepe de chine, and its momme weight is set here. Heavier momme = more silk per square metre.
Patterns are applied by digital, screen or jacquard method, then the edges are finished — hand-rolled for luxury, machine-hemmed for volume.
