What is the difference between a summer shawl and a winter shawl?
Summer shawls are light printed silk, winter shawls are heavier wool or cashmere for warmth

A summer shawl is a light, printed layer chosen for colour and drape, while a winter shawl is a heavier wool or cashmere wrap chosen for warmth.
Summer weight - light printed silk at 8-12 momme, roughly $1.5-$5 per piece, or 12-16 momme twill and crepe de chine for everyday wear. These are sheer to medium, pack small and suit resort, travel and occasion ranges.
Winter weight - wool-blend scarves at roughly $1.5-$4, cashmere blends at roughly $3-$8, and pure cashmere at roughly $8-$25. Heavier silk at 19-22 momme also works as a transitional layer with the most luxurious drape.
Size - oversized shawls from 100x200 cm upward give the wrap-and-cover coverage winter customers want. Summer shawls are often bought in the same large size but in a lighter cloth.
Target market - summer shawls sell on print and colour, winter shawls on fibre content and warmth. Both are cut from the same 20-piece per colour per design minimum, and custom sizes are cut to spec from that minimum.
