How do I choose between a printed shawl and a woven shawl?

Choose printed when you want full-colour artwork and a low entry minimum, and woven when you want structure, texture and a more premium hand feel.

Printed - the design is printed onto a woven base cloth, so you can run multi-colour artwork, photographic prints and seasonal patterns. Custom digital print starts from 20-100 pieces per design, which suits a boutique testing several colourways.

Woven - the pattern is built into the cloth on the loom, usually as checks, stripes, jacquard or a solid weave. There is no print surface to fade or crack, and the shawl holds its shape well at large sizes. A larger run per design and colourway is more economic, so woven suits a committed seasonal buy rather than a test.

At shawl scale, both are cut from the same standard minimum of 20 pieces per colour per design. Oversized shawls start from 100x200 cm upward, and custom sizes are cut to spec from that minimum.

If budget is tight and the artwork is the selling point, print. If the fabric itself is the selling point, weave.
