What is the difference between silk satin and silk charmeuse?
Charmeuse is a lighter, more fluid satin weave with a duller back, while silk satin is heavier and more lustrous

Silk satin and silk charmeuse are both satin-weave fabrics, but charmeuse is the lighter, more fluid version with a duller back, while silk satin is typically heavier and has a more uniform lustre.
Weave - Both use a satin weave, where warp threads float over weft threads to create a smooth face. Charmeuse usually has a lower momme weight, giving it a softer, more liquid drape.
Lustre - Silk satin has a high, reflective sheen on the face and a matte back. Charmeuse has a softer sheen on the face and a duller back, often described as more subtle.
Weight - Charmeuse is commonly found in 12-16 momme, while silk satin for scarves is often 19-22 momme. Heavier satin gives a more structured drape.
Price - Charmeuse generally falls in the standard 16-momme twill square range, roughly $4-$12 per piece for 90x90 cm. Heavier silk satin is in the 19-22 momme bracket, roughly $8-$20 per piece.
End use - Charmeuse suits lightweight scarves, lingerie and linings where fluidity matters. Silk satin is preferred for luxury scarves, evening wraps and pieces that need a rich, substantial hand.
