What is the difference between hand-rolled and machine-hemmed scarves?
Hand-rolled edges are a premium finish with higher labour cost; machine-hemmed edges are more economical and durable

Hand-rolled and machine-hemmed edges differ in labour, appearance and durability. Hand-rolling is done manually, creating a soft, rounded edge that is a mark of quality on fine silk. Machine-hemming is faster and more uniform, giving a flat, secure finish.
Labour cost - Hand-rolling is more labour-intensive and adds to the unit cost; machine hemming is more economical.
MOQ implications - Both are available from our standard minimum of 20 pieces per colour per design, but hand-rolling may require slightly longer production time.
Appearance - Hand-rolled edges have a subtle, irregular look that is prized on luxury silk squares; machine-hemmed edges are neat and consistent.
Durability - Machine hemming is very durable; hand-rolling is delicate but can be repaired.
Hand-rolling suits high-end silk squares and bandanas; machine hemming is practical for everyday scarves and larger volumes. Specify your preference when ordering.
