What is the best fabric for hair accessories — silk, satin or cotton?

For hair accessories, silk and satin are the gentlest options against hair, while cotton is the practical choice for volume and lower price points. The right answer depends on the retail position you want.

Silk - Smooth filament mulberry silk creates little friction, which is why it is the traditional choice for hair. It takes print beautifully and holds a soft drape in a small cut. It is the highest-priced option of the three.

Satin - A satin weave gives a similar smooth face and a strong lustre. In silk it sits at the heavier, more luxurious end; in silk-feel polyester it delivers the look at a lower cost. Polyester must always be labelled as polyester, never as silk.

Cotton - Cotton and cotton-linen are durable, washable and inexpensive, and they suit casual and childrenswear ranges. The trade-off is a slightly rougher surface and less drape in a narrow band.

Labelling - State the fibre and the blend percentage on the care label. If you need a specific standard such as OEKO-TEX, specify it and we source to your requirement.
