How do I wash and care for a silk scarf?
Hand wash cool with mild detergent, dry flat, iron on the reverse, store away from light

Hand wash in cool water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent, rinse without wringing, and dry flat away from direct heat or sunlight. Silk is a protein fibre, so harsh alkalis, hot water and mechanical agitation are what cause damage, not water itself.
Detergent - use a mild liquid detergent or a dedicated silk wash. Avoid biological powders, bleach and fabric softener, which strip the natural sericin and dull the lustre.
Temperature - cool water only. Hot water can shrink the fabric and shift printed colour.
Drying - press the water out in a towel, then dry flat. Do not tumble dry and do not hang a wet scarf by one corner, as the weight will distort the shape.
Ironing - iron on the reverse while slightly damp, on a low silk setting. Pressing the printed face directly can flatten the print and cause shine.
Storage - fold flat, keep out of prolonged direct light, and avoid hanging on metal hooks for long periods. Retailers can pass this guidance on as a care card; it reduces returns and protects the hand feel the customer paid for.
