How do I choose fabric weight for humid versus cold markets?
Match fabric weight to climate: lighter silk and cotton for humid markets, heavier twill and wool for cold

Choose lighter fabrics for humid markets and heavier fabrics for cold markets. In humid climates, a light and breathable fabric such as 6-8 momme silk chiffon or cotton is more comfortable, as it sits lightly on the skin and dries quickly. For cold markets, a heavier weight such as 19-22 momme silk twill or satin, or a wool or cashmere blend, provides warmth and a more substantial feel.
Hand feel changes with weight. Lighter fabrics feel airy and delicate, while heavier fabrics feel denser and more luxurious. The drape also differs: lighter silks flow, heavier twills hold a shape.
To specify a target, tell us the market, the season and the desired hand feel. We can then recommend a weight from our standard range. If you need a specific g/m2, we can confirm what is achievable at sample stage.
